eBay History-The First 16 Years

eBay History: The First 16 Years.

Yes, you read that correctly: sixteen years. eBay was created in September 1995, by a man called Pierre Omidyar, who was living in San Jose. He wanted his site – then called ‘AuctionWeb’ – to be an online marketplace, and wrote the first code for it in one weekend. It was one of the first websites of its kind in the world. The name ‘eBay’ comes from the domain Omidyar used for his site. His company’s name was Echo Bay, and the ‘eBay AuctionWeb’ was originally just one part of Echo Bay’s website at ebay.com. The first thing ever sold on the site was Omidyar’s broken laser pointer, which he got $14 for.

Omidyar was 28 when he sat down over that long holiday weekend to write the original computer code for what eventually became an internet super brand — the auction site eBay. The site was launched on Labor Day, Monday, September 4, 1995, as “Auction Web”. The word ‘eBay’ was made up on the fly by Omidyar when he was told that his first choice for his web site, ‘echobay,’ had already been registered.

The eBay site quickly became massively popular, as sellers came to list all sorts of odd things and buyers actually bought them. Continue reading

Your eBay Business – Find Help Here

This is not really off topic because no matter where you are in your eBay business you can find help here.

“How did you get started online?”

Nearly everyone starts at the same place – the beginning.
So, why is it that some people get to the finish line faster
than others?

There’s several reasons, but one is that they get really
good help from really experienced instructors from the
beginning.

But finding instructors you can trust is always a risk.

Until now. GREAT instructors – ones you can trust – will be
gathered in one room in Atlanta, GA and they will be working
with you to build your affiliate marketing empire.

The Niche Affiliate Marketing System workshop is like no
other out there.

NAMS 5&6

For three days, two dozen of the top Internet Marketers will
teach nuts and bolts results – no theory! This is a teaching workshop
where students implement what they learn on the
spot by following the leadership of instructors who have
been through the internet marketing trials before you.

Each will deliver 60 to 90 minutes of instruction about
their area of expertise.

That will then be followed by 1 to 2 hours of real group
hands-on implementation. You will self-select which
experience level track you enroll in. There are four:

* Beginner 1 – starting your ebay business business from scratch

* Beginner 2 – maybe you’ve got a blog already, but not
making money

* Intermediate – making money, but not enough

* Advanced – making plenty of money, but want more time and
a sustainable business

Our goal is that you accomplish your goals. By joining the
forum and working with accountability groups, you should
have firm goals established and partner teams aligned by the
time you to come to the workshop.

NAMS

So, yes – you should bring a computer and be ready to roll
up your sleeves.

No matter what your experience level is, this workshop is
created specifically to help build your ebay business.

Hope to see you there.

Peace & Prosperity!

Eleanor McCallum

find the answers for you.

Feedback on eBay-How Important is Your Buyer’s Reputation?

Your reputation as a buyer (or ‘feedback on ebay rating’) is the most important thing people see when they deal with you on eBay. It is on the basis of this little number that they will decide whether they can trust you or not.

Each time you buy or sell something on eBay, people can leave feedback for you, and you can leave feedback for them. This feedback can be positive, negative, or neutral, along with a comment. Your feedback rating, then, is worked out using a very simple sum: the number of positive feedback comments people have left for you, minus the number of negative ones. This means that someone with a feedback rating of 28, for example, might have 30 positive ratings and 2 negative ones.

If you are a considerate buyer, then you should find that positive feedback will just appear next to your username, without you needing to do anything. If you want to help it along, though, there are a few things you can do. Continue reading

eBay Information-Your Rights-Part Two

eBay information regarding:

How Do I Use My Rights?

You should take it up with the seller – most will be responsive, as they do not want to have their reputation damaged when an upset buyer leaves negative feedback for all their future buyers to see.

While eBay doesn’t have many people handling complaints, they do have a relatively effective set of automatic processes to handle common problems buyers and sellers have with one another.

Don’t Be Too Quick.

Remember not to get too annoyed and be unfair to the seller.   Always try your best to communicate and think of everything that might have gone wrong: eBay works best when buyers and sellers sort out their problems together, instead of reporting each other to the authorities right away.  See Steps to take for problems with an item

Knowing all you can about ebay information in regards to rights and policies and procedures will enable you to have more of a rewarding experience both as a buyer and seller online.

eBay User Agreement

The Most Recent Update for the eBay User Agreement

I received an email from eBay and in case many others did not see this, I am posting it here.  Most buyers and sellers on eBay would not be affected by this but we need to be aware of all of eBay’s policies.

Subject: Updates to the eBay User Agreement

“We’re writing to let you know that the eBay User Agreement has been updated to support policy and other changes. The updated Agreement is effective immediately for new members, and on May 31, 2011, for current members.

There is one key update to the User Agreement:
Clarification is included about instances where seller funds may be held as pending in their PayPal accounts. eBay has at times requested, and may continue to request, that PayPal hold seller funds to help facilitate smooth transactions. eBay will make such requests based upon factors including, but not limited to, selling history, seller performance, riskiness of the listing category, or the filing of an eBay Buyer Protection claim. PayPal may also hold funds pursuant to their own Funds Availability Policy.
As with earlier updates, other changes have been made to keep the User Agreement up-to-date with our product and service offerings.

You don’t need to take any further action to accept the new eBay User Agreement. If you choose not to accept the new terms, visit the help page for further direction.

Thank you for being a part of the eBay community.”

It is always helpful to stay updated on any changes to the ebay user agreement so you will know when something will affect you or not and what you will be able to do if you need to do something. The last thing you need is to be disqualified for a sale or a winning because you did not stay current with your information of  ebay policies and procedures.

To your eBay business success,

Eleanor McCallum
